Ruth Tachezy - head of the laboratory
Since 1989, she has been working at the Department of Experimental Virology that used to be part of the Institute of Sera and Vaccines and currently is part of the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion. She has been the head of the National Reference Laboratory for Papillomaviruses since 1998.

Jana Šmahelová - deputy head of the laboratory
She is involved in detection of HPV in clinical specimens, preparation and evaluation of samples for external quality assessment and characterization of experimental HPV16-transformed tumor cell lines.

Eva Hamšíková
Focuses on the relationship between human papillomaviruses and cancer in humans. In 1994 she was appointed the deputy head of the Department of Experimental Virology, and in 1999 was appointed the head of the Laboratory for Prevention of Viral Infections, Blood Transfusion Division, Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.

Professor Vladimír Vonka, MD, ScD
He initiated the foundation of the National Reference Laboratory for Papillomaviruses within the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion and has been deeply involved in its activities. Recently he has been focusing mainly on the issues of cancer gene therapy using models of both cervical cancer and chronic myeloid leukemia.

Michal Šmahel
Since 1995 he has been working at the Department of Experimental Virology of the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion where he was appointed the head of the Laboratory of Molecular Oncology in 1996. He has been involved particularly in the development of therapeutical antitumor vaccines and overcoming mechanisms of escape of tumor cells from the host immune system.

Viera Ludvíková
Her current field of study focuses are the preparation of recombinant HPV antigens in a baculovirus express system, study of usability of transgenic plants for the production of human papillomavirus proteins, detection of expression of HPV antigens in plant cells by means of western blotting analysis and research in immunotherapy of chronic myeloid leukemia.
